VE Day 2020

8 May 1945 – VE (Victory in Europe) Day – was one that remained in the memory of all those who witnessed it. It meant an end to nearly six years of a war that had cost the lives of millions; had destroyed homes, families, and cities; and had brought huge suffering and privations to the populations of entire countries.

Millions of people rejoiced in the news that Germany had surrendered, relieved that the intense strain of total war was finally over. In towns and cities across the world, people marked the victory with street parties, dancing and singing.

2020 is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, to commemorate the occasion Blandford Georgian Fayre will be held on Friday the 8th of May.

There will be some minor changes form our normal day. The mighty Carousel will be in Hyde park, the same location it was in 1945. We will endeavour to find a worth replacement for 2020.

The market place will have a small music stage and covered market in 2020, alongside a few hand picked street food and drink traders. Timings to be confirmed but we are hoping to have music and entertainment from 10am until 7pm on the outside stage, and children’s entertainment in the Corn exchange from 10am until 5pm.

From 7:30 pm there will be an evening of music in the corn exchange featuring a Glenn Miller tribute band, playing music to dance to from the 1940’s.

Full details will follow as soon as possible.
